I use.. #3:

Vuze.

http://download.cnet.com/i/bto/20081017/Vuze_4.0_search_540x391.jpg

The best bittorrent app availabe. Free. Mac or PC. An integrated search system allows you to crawl multiple torrent sites including mininova and btjunkie. (Sadly, pirate bay is no more.)

Say goodbye to googling, or using torrents.to, which was my previous method. =)

Vuze also has an HD Network community thing, which I don't usually use, although it is useful if you feel the need to download music videos, movie trailers, and such. On the other hand, illegal films and shows can be downloaded using the normal search bar.

If you're really bored, and have nothing to do, check out the swarm option, where you see a visual animation of individual file parts coming in to your computer from different seeders..

I use.. #2:

Cooliris.

Made these screenshots while using it myself:

cooliris1

cooliris2

This is a nifty add-on for you Firefox users (and I frankly don't see why you should be using any other browser :D).

It allows you to rapidly look through a plethora of pictures/photos, without having to click a next button to open a new page each time. Good news: it's fully compatible with Flickr, Facebook, and Google images, among other sites, so you can save a lot of time and hassle when going through your daily routine of doing absolutely nothing productive on your computer, or searching for some inspiration. (If you want to comment on pictures, there's a button to open the actual webpage in a tab.)

After installing the add-on, you'll see a little logo at the bottom left of the picture by hovering over it with your mouse. Clicking on it will open up a new tab with the Cooliris interface.

Have fun scrolling up and down the gallery (which automatically updates itself for larger picture sets), and click on a pic to zoom in.

You can also set your own background picture. I would suggest setting a really serene and sedative wallpaper; mine is from Desktopography =)

I use.. #1:

Destroy Twitter.

Here's a little screenshot of how it looks on my screen:

destroytwitter

At the time of my writing, not a lot of my friends use twitter, but I still use it to pick up live feeds from sites, blogs, etc. that I follow (including NBA, Mashable, etc.). For those of you who do use twitter, I strongly recommend this desktop app. It's perfect for non-'power-users', and the interface is, quite frankly, beautiful. Customizable themes allows for a bit of personalization. Personally, I don't have an iPhone or iPod Touch (yet) so I don't have to worry about syncing, in which case it would be wiser to use other apps such as Tweetdeck.

Btdubs, I don't post much myself on Twitter, but if I see more of my friends actually using it, I'll start posting up more random crap. =)

Follow me at http://twitter.com/xtralime, but only if you're not ugly.
